Halloween Fall Craft for PreschoolersEver since seeing this shaving cream Eric Carle seahorse from I Heart Crafty Things and this shaving foam leaf from Little Wonders’ Days on Pinterest, I have been dying to try out some preschool shaving cream art with my preschooler. I don’t remember doing this as a kid – do you?

This is a super fun way to get into the Halloween spirit if you haven’t started yet!

Materials

  • Shaving cream
  • Acrylic paint or food coloring
  • A mixing tool (we used a bamboo skewer – you could also use a paintbrush or a chopstick)
  • A scraping tool (if you’re fancy, use a proper metal scraping tool – we used stiff cardboard rectangles)
  • Optional: a tray or something else to protect your work surface

How To

Step 1

Cover your work surface with shaving foam.

Step 2

Let your preschooler squeeze food coloring or paint onto the shaving cream.

Step 3

Let your child swirl to her heart’s delight!

Tips:  For maximum creativity, let your preschooler add as much color as she wants to her canvas. For the prettiest prints, use only a few colors (3-4), a clean shaving cream canvas each time, and paint – not food coloring (because it bleeds into the paper).

Step 4

Press your pumpkin cutout or paper into the swirled shaving foam for a few seconds and lift it off slowly.

 Step 5

Scrape off the shaving cream from your cut out and let it dry.

Next time we’ll be trying this technique on cardstock with paint, instead of food coloring, to make vibrant homemade holiday cards!
